Maoists shot dead a leader of the Andhra Pradesh ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Visakhapatnam district of the state for supporting bauxite mining.
The incident occurred in a tribal village Jarrila, G K Veedhi mandal, Visakhapatnam district. Venkatramna, a former sarpanch of TDP, was kidnapped from the village and subsequently killed. A group of Maoists sent a message to the village to inform that they killed him for supporting the bauxite mining in agency area and also for acting as spy for police.
The 36-year-old local leader was earlier said to have been warned by the Maoists against participating in support of bauxite mining. Not stopping there, the Maoists also posted wall posters to warn TDP and BJP leaders against bauxite mining. It may be noted that Maoists and tribal people have been strongly opposing the AP State Government’s move to allow bauxite mining in the agency area.
Following this killing, police in the agency area have gone on high alert and commenced combing Operations.
