Top World Women’s Tennis pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won their 29th consecutive match as a pair to create a new record for most consecutive wins (29) in the category of Women’s doubles.
The Indo-Swiss pair won the rain-interrupted semi-final 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 against Raluca Olaru and Yaroslava Shvedova to enter the final of the Sydney International and eclipse the record set by Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva in 1994 by winning 28 consecutive matches as pair.
The world No.1 pair is now eyeing the second title of this new year after winning the Brisbane International last week. The pair claimed nine titles last year including Wimbledon and US Open grand slams to emerge the top ranked Women’s doubles pair. They have not lost a match since their loss at Western and Southern Open last year.
This marathon win is viewed by many as an ideal preparation for the No.1 pair to clinch the Australian Open championship to start next week.
