Shame: Only 45% Polling for GHMC

GHMC elections concluded on a sad note as just 45 percent of around 75 lakh voters cast their votes in the polls.

The voting percentage improved by 2 percent from the 2009 elections, in which 43 percent people cast their votes. Disturbed by the low percentage of voting, the Telangana State election commission, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and several voluntary organizations vigorously conducted awareness campaign in the wards but the hard efforts showed no impact whatsoever on voters as once again people were reluctant to vote.

Almost all public and private offices in the city have declared Holiday so that employees can participate in voting but the educated employees preferred to go out with families to Movies and other amusement places rather than vote. As the percentage of voting is very less, all Political Parties are keeping their fingers crossed as there will be only marginal difference in the results.

The results of GHMC polls will be declared on 5th February. On 11th, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected.
