Saina Nehwal, the London Olympic Bronze Medallist on Saturday created history by arriving at the finals of the prestigious All England Badminton Championship with a triumph over Sun Yu of China in the Women’s singles competition.
The 24-year old Nehwal, crushed the unseeded Sun Yu 21-13 21-13 in a match that went on for 51 minutes at the Barclaycard Arena.
Nehwal is currently only one stage far from joining Indian legends Prakash Padukone (1980) and P Gopichand (2001) who have bagged the prestigious title previously.
“It is a big event and everyone dreams for winning,” Nehwal said.
“This is a major hurdle and everybody in India expects a lot of me to win each competition.” Nehwal added.
