After the vast expenditure for Godavari Pushkarams last year, the Andhra Pradesh government is now getting ready to conduct the Krishna Pushkarams this year with an estimated expenditure of Rs 3,846 crore.
The river festival is held every 12 years and it is scheduled to begin from August 12 this year. Several crores of people are expected to take holy dip in the Krishna River. The State Government is planning to construct as many as 125 new bathing ghats and renovate at least 150 temples on the banks of the river Krishna.
Tenders for renovation of temples have already been invited and the chief minister will finalize the Budget for various departments soon. The focus will be on constructing approach roads too.
Last year, as many as 28 people died at the Pushkar ghat in Godavari following unexpected stampede. Opposition had then questioned chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s intention hold up thousands of people at the entrance of the gate by taking dip at the Pushkar ghat, while there was a separate Saraswati ghat for VIPs.
AP Govt. might not want to repeat such mistake.
