Legendary music director Khayyam has announced his plans to donate his entire wealth valued at Rs 10 crore to support struggling artists and technicians in the Film Industry.
To mark the occasion of his 89th birthday, he formed a charitable trust named ‘Khayyam Jagjeet Kaur’ KPG Charitable Trust and decided to help strugglers as he was also a struggler when he came to Mumbai with nothing in his pocket.
His real name is Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi but is popularly known to music lovers as Khayyam. In a career spanning over four decades, Khayyam composed the music for many classic films and worked with some of the greatest poets and singers of the country.
Khayyam also won three Filmfare Awards in his career: Best Music for Kabhi Kabhie in 1977, for Umrao Jaan in 1982 and a Lifetime Achievement award in year 2010. The renowned music director was honored with the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011.
