Another Disappointing Railway Budget

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has today presented Railway Budget 2016 in Lok Sabha. Central Government hasn’t bothered to fulfill any of the promises made to the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The total Investment is Rs 1.2 lakh Cr and Railways is aiming to generate revenues upto Rs 1.84 lakh Cr without hike in ticket fares. 44 new projects covering 5,300 km have been announced. Governments change and decades pass but looks like there is no hope for Telugu people in the railway budgets.

Visakhapatnam was supposed to be declared Railway Zone last year only but there is no mention about the same even in this year’s budget. There was no announcement of New Trains or funds for pending projects in the two Telugu States.

Promised and pending works like laying of a railway line between the Kotipalli-Narsapur route, expansion of the existing MMTS railway line in Hyderabad etc were not even mentioned during the budget session. Coach Factory Kazipet and Railway University in Amaravathi were safely neglected.

Vijaywada was mentioned in connection with the freight corridor proposed to be built to connect it to Kharagpur.
