World’s top mobile messaging service WhatsApp plans to drop support for Blackberry and Nokia devices by 2017 in a bid to push the app’s growth.
“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s Features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp,” announced the Facebook-owned WhatsApp via a blog post.
Whatsapp recommended users to upgrade to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone by the end of 2016 to continue WhatsApp service.
More than one billion people across the globe are using Whatsapp with 42 billion messages being exchanged daily, announced Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg a month ago.
Founded in 2009, WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for $19 billion in 2014.
The community of WhatsApp’s has more than doubled since the acquisition by Facebook.
