New Zealand created history by making their maiden Cricket World cup final appearance with a staggering four-wicket victory against South Africa.
Chasing a target of 298 runs in 43 overs under the extreme pressure, New Zealand stepped over the line when Grant Elliot (84) crushed Dale Steyn over long-on for a six with just one ball to spare in an exciting confrontation.
Twelve runs were needed off the last over of the match after New Zealand had been set an overwhelming 298 to score off 43 overs.
Requiring 12 runs to win off six balls, Daniel Vettori discovered the Strategy to cut down to five from two balls, before Elliot hit the triumphant runs.
Elliott was named the man-of-the-match after his excellent 84 not out from 73 balls.
They will now meet the winners of Thursday’s second semi-final between Australia and India in Sunday’s final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
