American multinational Technology company that specializes in Internet-related services and products Google is geared up to help the election commission of India to track online political advertisements during the approaching elections.
The company is reportedly planning to develop a tool that will ensure pre-certification of political advertisements. It will further empower to Share the information about the expenditure with the authority.
The Hindu reports that the Chief Election Commissioner O.P. Rawat said that a Google representative met a committee that had been set up to discover possible modifications in Section 126 (election silence) and other provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 taking into consideration the expansion and diversity of media platforms.
According to an Election Commission official, “as soon as someone is declared a runner for any election, all the money spent by the candidate for campaigning gets added as election expenditure.
He further said that the Commission will also ask the candidates to affirm their official social media accounts.
