In politics, character assassination is a form of negative campaigning. Perhaps the most common form of character assassination is the spread of allegations that an opponent is a corrupt, liar or incompetent.
Other common themes may include allegations that the opponent has a bad relationship with his spouse or Children.
YSR Congress party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy apparently preferred second theme (i.e. marriage, spouse etc,.) to attack his opponents and tarnish their reputation.
A few months ago, YS Jagan insulted JanaSena party chief Pawan Kalyan’s personal life by saying Pawan Kalyan changes his wives so easily like he changes his cars.
Those comments have shaped a massive controversy in the Andhra Pradesh politics and even Political Analysts and observers found fault in Jagan’s comments and opined that he was going completely personal.
There were even some surveys saying that the Jagan’s comments on Pawan Kalyan’s personal life affected YSR Congress Party’s prospects in Andhra Pradesh.
However, Jagan didn’t seem to mind commenting on opponent’s personal life and he still doesn’t seem to care any opinions against his comments.
YS Jagan who is currently touring Godavari districts as part of ‘Praja Sankalpa Yatra’ campaign repeated the same comments on Pawan Kalyan.
It undoubtedly illustrates that the uncouth insults on opponent’s personal life and family have brought politics to a new low in Andhra Pradesh.
