Marlon Samuels of the West Indies, the Man of the Match trophy winner of the just concluded T20 World cup, has been fined 30 percent of match fee for using offensive language at Ben Stokes of England during the final match held at Eden Gardens.
An ICC media release said that Samuels was found to have breached Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which means to “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match”, a level 1 violation.
Samuels has accepted the sanction proposed by match referee so there was no need for a formal hearing. The incident happened in the final over of the match when West Indies was chasing the total posted by England and Stokes was the bowler.
The charge against Samuels was leveled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Rod Tucker, third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Bruce Oxenford.
