“Sri Lanka has been rated as the Most Corrupt Cricketing nation by the ICC,” Sri Lanka’s Minister of Telecommunication, Digital Infrastructure facilities, Foreign Employment and Sports Harin Fernando said.
Sri Lanka’s Minister of Telecommunication, Digital Infrastructure facilities, Foreign Employment and Sports Harin Fernando recently said that the Sri Lanka has been rated as the most corrupt cricketing nation by the ICC (International Cricket Council).
Mr. Fernando also said that he had been shown a confidential report on the issue at a meeting in Dubai.
The nation’s sports minister further said that “they told me that the problem was not limited to bookies, but even the domestic sport’s links with the underworld.”
However, Sri Lanka’s national cricket team achieved sizable successes so far. Sri Lanka have won the Cricket World cup in 1996, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002, and have won the ICC World Twenty20 championship in 2014.
The Sri Lankan cricket team currently holds several world records, including the world record for the highest team total in Test Cricket.
