The 2019 union budget is an election budget. It has all the ingredients to please Farmers, the middle class and the unorganized labor class.

The interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal has micromanaged various parameters to improve Transparency and quality of the union budget.

Tax payers with an annual income of Rs. 5 lakh or less shall enjoy a full rebate.

Tax payers earning a gross income of up-to Rs. 6.5 lakh need not pay any income tax, provided they invest smartly in financial instruments like equities.

While presenting the interim budget, Piyush Goyal extolled the virtues of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. According to this scheme, farmers with less than 2 hectares of land shall receive an assured annual income of Rs 6000.

It’s safe to assert that the 2019 union budget is a populist budget. Ever since 2014, Modi and his team have worked on controlling inflation and fiscal deficit. Major policy changes such as IBC, RERA, etc., were introduced. This budget is irrelevant to the opposition. But the nationalists and populists love it.

If this populist budget can help NDA win votes, three cheers to PM Modi’s sagacity!
