PepsiCo filed a lawsuit against Farmers for the reason that they are illegally growing and selling potatoes exclusively registered by the company.
Food, snack, and beverage corporation PepsiCo India has recently filed a Lawsuit against farmers in Gujarat, India.
According to reports, the company sued four small farmers in India US$142,000 each.
According to the PepsiCo, lawsuit against farmers was filed for the reason that they are illegally growing and selling potatoes exclusively registered by the company.
In support of the farmers, social activists, farmer unions and others have signed a protest letter. The citizens on the social media too are slamming the PepsiCo for their behavior towards farmers.
PepsiCo appointed detectives and sent them as buyers to the farmers, a non-profit organisation said.
Pepsi said they would end the suit if the farmers grew potatoes for them.
A number of Farmers’ associations are requesting that the government get involved in the case stating that Pepsi is attempting to intimidate people.
After pressure from the public as well as state and national governments, PepsiCo withdrew the lawsuit on 2nd of May, 2019.
