G. Suvarna Lakshmi has become the first female to be appointed to International Cricket Council ‘s international panel of match referees.

India’s former domestic cricket player and coach G. Suvarna Lakshmi has become the first female to be appointed to International Cricket Council (ICC)’s international panel of match referees.

With this appointment, G.S. Lakshmi will be qualified to officiate in international tournaments with immediate effect.

Australian cricket umpire Claire Antonia Polosak had earlier become the First Ever woman umpire to stand in a men’s One-day International (ODI).

Lakshmi who was a right handed batswoman and right-arm fast-medium outswing bowler now became the first woman to be appointed to the International Cricket Council’s International Panel of Match Referees on 14 May 2019.

Lakshmi was also the match referee for all 4 matches of the 2019 Women’s T20 Challenge.
