In a surprise development, President’s rule was revoked in the State of Maharashtra and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Leader Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra with NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) leader Ajit Pawar taking oath as the State’s Deputy Chief Minister.
With this dramatic development, the month-long political suspense ended on 23rd November.
Speaking to media after taking the oath as CM, Devendra Fadnavis said Maharashtra people had given a clear mandate, but Shiv Sena tried to ally with other parties after results.
Maharashtra needed a stable government and not a Khichadi government, Mr. Fadnavis added.
What Made Ajit Pawar Support BJP?
Speaking to reporters, Ajit Pawar said, he took the decision because from the day results announced to this day no party was able to form Government in the State of Maharashtra and the State was facing several issues including farmer problems.
The BJP with 105 Assembly seats emerged as the single largest party in the State while Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress party won 56, 54 and 44 seats respectively.
