The President of United States Barack Obama has signed the National defence Authorisation Act 2017, which suggests US Defence Secretary and Secretary of State to look at needed measures to recognise India as America’s key defence partner.
The Act, which in turn improves security co-operation between the two nations, also conditions up to 50 % of the funding to Pakistan on a certification that it is taking demonstrable actions against the Haqqani Network.
Additionally, it suggests the US administration to designate an individual, within the executive branch, who has experience in defence acquisition and Technology, to ensure the success of the framework for US-India Defence Relationship.
The Act will furthermore help resolve leftover matters impeding US-India defence trade, security cooperation, in addition to co-production and co-development possibilities.
