Announcement: IAF to have Women Fighter Pilots

The defence Ministry has taken a revolutionary decision by approving the proposal of the Indian Air Force to induct Women as fighter pilots.

The first batch of Women fighter pilots is going to be selected from the current batch at the Air Force Academy.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar revealed this by tweeting, “Ministry of Defence Approves induction of Women into the Fighter (Combat) Stream. The FIRST Women pilots in the fighter stream of IAF will be selected from the current batch at AF Academy.”

Few days back, on 8th October, on Air Force Day, Air Force Chief Marshal Arup Raha announced that Women would soon be inducted as fighter pilots.

Now the official announcement has come from the Defence ministry in this regard, thus making IAF the first of three Defence services to have Women in combat roles.
