Following Aamir Khan’s controversial statements on the growing intolerance in India, there has been a huge uproar across the country against him. The hatred swung towards one of the prominent E-commerce websites of the country, Snapdeal, which Aamir Khan endorsers.
#AppWapsi hashtag trended on Twitter in no time and nearly 1 lakh Snapdeal apps were uninstalled by angry Indians to protest against Aamir’s statement.
Meanwhile, Snapdeal initiated damage control steps by issuing a public statement saying it had nothing to do with Aamir’s personal statements. However, all the outrage seems to have only helped Snapdeal to gain publicity.
On November 23rd, the day Aamir Khan first made his statement, Snapdeal’s India rank in the Google Play Store was 28. After couple of days, the wide outrage and protests from national media and public resulted into the app’s rank move up to 22 from 28.
Interestingly, this is observed to be the single biggest jump of the e-commerce giant ever. Although Snapdeal was worried at first, after looking at the jump, they must be very happy.
