Christmas to Stir Controversy in Maharashtra??

Maharashtra Government, which has stirred numerous controversies like Beef Ban in the recent times, is all set to stir another controversy in the state by making Christmas 2015 a ‘Working Day’.

It may be noted that this is the second time in a row that Christmas had become a working day in the state. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and cadre decided to celebrate Christmas as Good Governance Day since December 25 also happens to be the birthday of Ex Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Although December 25, Christmas is a National Holiday, employees must hold various seminars and workshops on RTI Act to make the Maharashtra people aware.

Christian Community alleges that Maharashtra Government is creating an unpleasant atmosphere between communities showcasing Vajpayee’s birthday as a reason. It suggests State Government to hold Good Governance Day on another date which doesn’t clash with any festival.

Opposition Parties in Maharashtra have also raised their voice against the Govt. move and accused BJP of deliberately hurting the sentiments of Christian community.
