Along with acclaimed Marathi courtroom drama “Court”, few other Indian Films are also competing for a spot in the nominations for the Best Picture category at the 88th Academy Awards (Oscars).
Malayalam film “Jalam”, Kannada film “Rangitaranga”, Konkani film “Nachom-ia Kumpasar”, Hindi film “Hemalkasa” and Indo-Australian film “Salt Bridge” are also among the 305 films that are competing to get the Best Picture nomination at the 88th Academy Awards.
Konkani film Nachom-ia Kumpasar, a tribute to the unsung Goa musicians of the 1960s and 1970s, has Travelled to several International Film Festivals and won many prestigious awards. Kannada film RangiTaranga is a mystery thriller written and directed by Anup Bhandari. Chaitanya Tamhane’s debut Marathi film “Court”, the National Award winning court drama, is the India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category.
The final awards nominations will be announced on 14th January, 2016. The Awards ceremony will be held on held on 28th February, 2016 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Indian cinema fans hope that at least this time India can make it to the nominations if not win the award.
