Union Health Minister J P Nadda has today laid the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri, Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.
Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Sujana Chowdary, Ashok Gajapati Raju, MPs Galla Jaydev, Haribabu, Maganti Babu and Gokaraju Gangaraju have also taken part in the foundation stone laying ceremony.
Speaking at the function, Nadda said that the construction works of AIIMS will be completed in three years. Later Chandrababu Naidu urged him to make it operational in two years.
The 900-bed AIIMS facility at Mangalagiri will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,620 Crore. It will be equipped with world class facilities and will also make 100 medical seats available, said Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas.
Nadda also said that 10 new AIIMS will come up in India in next one-and-half years to extend tertiary Healthcare services to every region and they all will have super specialties. These 10 new AIIMS are expected to add 16,300 additional beds.
