AP to link Krishna, Pennar and Cauvery Rivers

The Union government has asked the AP govt. to go ahead with the linking of Krishna, Pennar and Cauvery Rivers to reduce the imbalance in availability of water between different regions in the newly formed state.

The proposed project is one of the biggest river linking projects ever in the country and AP is given the responsibility of it even though the project involves neighboring states Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Centre kept its trust on AP since the State Government has recently completed the linking of Krishna and Godavari Rivers in record time. The commissioner of Union Water Ministry has directed AP Irrigation Officials to prepare the project’s DPR.

This project comprises of two stages. In the first stage, River Krishna will be connected with Pennar and Pennar will be linked with Cauvery in the second.

Through this project, Centre plans to divert surplus water in Mahanadi and Godavari basins to South India.
