Anoushka Shankar & Asif Kapadia Bags GRAMMY Nominations

Internationally famous Indian Sitarist Anoushka Shankar and director Asif Kapadia are the two among the Indian origin personalities being nominated for the 58th Grammy awards to take place on 15th February 15, 2016, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Aniushka Shankar has been nominated in the Best World Music Album category for her solo album ‘Home’. Overall, this is her fifth nomination in this category.

‘Home’ is a pure Indian classical album showcasing the meditative and virtuosic traits of the Indian raga. The album Features two ragas, one of which is a creation of her late legendary father Pundit Ravi Shankar.

Indo-British director Asif Kapadia has been nominated for Best Music Film category for ‘Amy’, the documentary on late pop singer Amy Winehouse.

Noted Indian origin musician Jeff Bhasker is nominated for ‘Record of the Year’ category for Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk’. He is also nominated for the Producer of the Year in Non-Classical category.

Indian origin Rudresh Mahanthappa is nominated in the Best Instrumental Composition category for ‘The Afro Latin Jazz Suite’. Another Indian origin composer David Balkrishnan is also nominated in the same section for ‘Confetti Man’.
