It seems that the loss of West Bengal is going to be the gain of Andhra Pradesh.
Union Government is now keen to set up the 6,000 MW Nuclear Power Plant in Andhra Pradesh, which earlier was supposed to be set up in West Bengal. If this materializes, AP will have a second Nuclear Plant after the one at Kovvada.
The West Bengal Government has gone back on their promise to allot land for this Nuclear Power Plant due to the protests against land acquisition act in the state. With this, The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) has preferred AP due to the availability of vast Government land in Prakasam and Nellore districts.
NPCIL director GV Ramesh has informed to the Centre that they have decided to set up the Nuclear Power Plant (in collaboration with Russia’s Nuclear Power giant, Rosatom) in between Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Union government has also given consent. If AP can allot government land, then this project will also land in the kitty of AP.
