According to latest reports, the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani and 19 others over a petition filed by Haji Mehboob in the Babri masjid demolition case.
Top BJP leaders including Murli Manohar Joshi, Union Minister Uma Bharti and Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh are amongst those informed by the court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been allowed four weeks time to react to the supplication for the situation.
The court had earlier pulled up CBI for the deferral in documenting an appeal against the Allahabad High Court verdict.
CBI has challenged in the Supreme Court the May 21, 2010 order of the high court, which had upheld a special court’s decision to drop the charge against the leaders.
In its decision, the high court had upheld the special CBI court order dropping conspiracy charge against Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar.
The others against whom the charge was dropped included C R Bansal, Satish Pradhan, Giriraj Kishore, Ashok Singhal, V H Dalmia, Sadhvi Ritambhara, Mahant Avaidhynath, R V Vedanti, Param Hans Ram Chandra Das, B L Sharma, Jagdish Muni Maharaj, Nritya Gopal Das,Dharam Das, Satish Nagar and Moreshwar Save.
