A village in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, Gujarat, has banned single Women from using mobile phones and announced Rs 2100 fine if caught doing so.
The head members of the village have recently passed a resolution banning the use of mobile phones for single Women. The elders feel the Technology has become a nuisance to society. Mobile phones are distracting single Women from carrying out household chores in the village, they feel.
The village council announced that if caught owning or using a mobile phone, the violators will have to face Rs 2,100 fine. A similar ban would soon be announced for teenage boys also. The village has a Population of 2,000.
Interestingly, the ban comes at a time when Narendra Modi is holding nationwide campaign to spread the use of technology in rural India. The NDA Government launched “Digital India” Initiative with the intention of boosting connectivity in rural India.
However, Gujarat, being the home state of Narendra Modi, seems averse to technology.
