Hughes Communication India, Broadband satellite network provider, had won a new contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) over the connectivity of broadband in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. The project will look after growing bandwidth connectivity on the island that is out of reach of terrestrial Technology.
BSNL collaboration with Hughes India plans to expand the connectivity to 400 times than the current capacity. The augmented bandwidth in the island region has increased from 240 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Hughes claimed that installing fibre or cable is challenging, but it is a cost-effective option for comprehensive coverage.
Hughes India provided solutions by setting up BSNL with satellite terminals and modems for voice, data and communication through Videos as well as high speed capacity backhaul satellite to extend network coverage over that region.
