Centre: Delimitation of Constituencies only after 2026

Union government has today given a rude shock to the leaders of all the Political Parties in the two Telugu states, who have been demanding for increase in the number of Assemblies constituencies of both the states as promised by the Union govt. in the AP Reorganization Act 2014.

The Centre has ruled out the delimitation of constituencies till 2026. This announcement form Centre came today in Lok Sabha. The union govt. clearly mentioned that as per Article 170 of the AP Reorganization Act, the delimitation can be done only after the Population census in 2026.

However, Political Leaders of both the states allege that as per the AP Reorganization Act, the number of Assembly constituencies in Telangana must be increased from 119 to 153 and from 175 to 225 in Andhra Pradesh.

All major political parties in AP and Telangana have been hoping for the delimitation of constituencies so that they can accommodate more MLAs. However, the decision by centre has come as a shocker and it is expected to increase politically unemployed leaders in the two Telugu states.
