The Film Federation of India (FFI) has finally declared Marathi film “Court” as the India’s official entry to the Oscars this year.
FFI Chairman Amol Palekar has made this decision which was not a big surprise since ‘Court’ had already won 18 awards at various International Film Festivals.
Pride of Telugu cinema, “Bahubali” is out of the race. Although, there was no chance for Baahubali, many Telugu cinema fanatics just thought that may be it would have a slight chance.
Tamil Movie “Kaakamuttai” was the frontrunner to be selected but finally “Court” got selected. Released in 2015, ‘Court’ is an Indian courtroom drama, written and directed by debutant Chaitanya Tamhane.
Court premiered at the reputed 71st Venice International Film Festival and won the awards for Best Film and Best Debut Director.
FFI jury felt that the film has great chance of winning the Oscar Award.
