EMphasising that there’s a backlog of more than 3.3 crore cases in Indian courts, President Ram Nath Kovind said, “Indian legal system is marked by long delays.”
President addressed the National Conference being organised by the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association in New Delhi.
“India’s judiciary is respected across the world as an upholder of justice for the defenceless,” President said.
“Of these, 2.84 crore cases are in subordinate courts, 43 lakh in the High Courts and about 58,000 in the Supreme Court,” President added at national conference.
Kovind was nominated as a presidential candidate by the ruling NDA coalition and won the 2017 presidential election, becoming the second Dalit to be elected to the post of President.
Before entering politics, he was a lawyer for 16 years and practiced in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court until 1993.
