Dhoni posed as God Vishnu, Non-Bailable Warrant Issued

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Indian Cricket team captain Mahender Singh Dhoni by an Anantpur court on the grounds that he insulted Hindus by appearing as God Vishnu in an advertisement. The court asked him to appear before it on 25th Feb.

A controversial magazine cover page in which Dhoni posed as Lord Vishnu in 2013 has been surfacing every now and then. A petition was filed by VHP leader Shyam Sundar alleging that the image in which Dhini posed as God, hurt the religious sentiments of Hindu community.

The court responding to the petition, had earlier summoned Dhoni but he did not heed to the summons then. In the latest update, the court has issued non-bailable warrant against Dhoni after he failed to respond to court summons.

A similar petition regarding the same image was filed by RTI activist Jayakumar Hiremath in a court in Bangalore in 2013. Responding to that case, Dhoni clarified that he didn’t pose as god but the image was morphed. The Supreme Court stayed criminal proceedings against the captain in September 2015 regarding the same case.

Dhoni is currently in Australia preparing for the forthcoming one day series, with the first match scheduled on January 12.
