Leader of the UK’s Labour party Jeremy Corbyn on 13th December announced that he’ll stand down as leader of the Party.

Corbyn announced his resignation after trends predict heavy defeat for the party in the United Kingdom General Elections 2019.

Addressing the media in London, Corbyn said there needs to be “a process of reflection” about Labour’s direction.  He said he’ll stand down as leader of the Labour Party.

Corbyn was elected Labour leader in 2015. The party’s membership increased sharply, both during the Leadership campaign and following his election.

According to BBC report, Conservatives win overall majority in 2019 UK general election, passing threshold of 326 seats, with more seats yet to declare.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Boris Johnson on the election outcome. Mr. Modi wrote on his Twitter page, “Many congratulations to PM Boris Johnson for his return with a thumping majority. I wish him the Best and look forward to working together for closer India-UK ties.”

United States President Donald Trump wrote on his Twitter page, “Congratulations to Boris Johnson on his great WIN! Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after Brexit. This deal has the potential to be far bigger and more lucrative than any deal that could be made with the E.U. Celebrate Boris!”
