Environmental Activists and Union Environment Ministry Jolt for AP Govt

The financially crippled Andhra Pradesh Government which is set to start the works of capital city found a new roadblock in the form of Environmental activists and Union Environment Ministry.

As per reports, Union Environment Ministry has asked AP State Government to submit complete details regarding the diversion of huge 19,000 hectares of forest land for new capital city, Amaravati. After AP Environment Authorities providing clearance for the diversion of this massive forest land, a petition was filed with National Green Tribunal against the approval.

Hence the action came from Union Environment Ministry seeking complete details instead of issuing nod. The Ministry felt that the project details submitted by the State Government are incomplete and it raised several queries in the proposal of diverting a large chunk of forest land for Amaravati. It certainly is worrying the AP Government now.

Earlier, former IAS Officer and Social Activist EAS Sharma had filed a petition in National Green Tribunal against the clearance of AP Environment Authorities for Amaravati complaining that huge area of fertile land is being diverted.
