When two legends come together, the result will be sheer magic. However, things turned controversial when the legendary Iranian Filmmaker Majid Majidi joined hands with our very own music maestro AR Rahman for an Iranian film titled ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God’.
Now, the Mumbai based ‘Raza Academy’ has issued a fatwa (a ruling on a point of Islamic law given by a recognized authority) against everyone who are involved in this project includes director Majid Majidi and music director AR Rahman.
Speaking to a leading media house, the Chief of Raza Academy, Saeed Noorie said, “There is a film that has been made in Iran which has been titled Muhammad: Messenger of God. Whenever a cinegoer watches any film, if the film is good, then, he/ she names the film and says that the film is good. In case the film turns out to be bad/ not suiting to his/her expectations, the very cinegoer will name the film and term it as a bad film, which will mean an insult to the Prophet. That is the reason why we are objecting to the said film’s name.”
“Till about yesterday, Muslims were against cartoons, and today’s situation is that, there is a full film that is being made. Just because it has been made by a Muslim country, one cannot remain silent,” he added.
When he was asked about the next step by Raza Academy, Saeed Noorie said, “We have issues Fatwa but haven’t got any reply so far. But, we will contact Home Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to demand a ban on the film and legal action be taken against AR Rahman and Majid Majidi for hurting the feelings of Muslims.”
