Director Puri Jagannath, who is criticized often for his portrayal of Women in his Films, has yet again criticized them in his new film ‘Loafer’ that was released on 17th Dec to mixed reviews.
There is a dialogue in Loafer comparing good Women with Dinosaurs. “Poorvakalam lo Dinosaurs vundevi. Tarvatha antharinchipoyai. Ippudu kavalantey vastaya? Alage.. Kannamba, Savitiri, Me Amma.. kavalante dorakaru ippudu”. Puri was conveying that obedient and gracious Women are tough to find in these times.
Speaking about the Women of this generation, his next dialogue came like, “Ippati ammayilantha eppudu evaditho lechipotaro vaarikey teliyadu”. He meant that modern day Women are very much unpredictable as no one can expect who will elope with whom and when.
These dialogues are demeaning Women and inviting flak from female community. Puri shouldn’t have generalized in that way. He must have forgotten that he might hurt the sentiments of Women with his dialogues.
Starring Varun Tej, Disha Patani, Revathi, Posani etc. ‘Loafer’ might find tough to recover at Box Office with mixed reviews and word of mouth.
