Dipa Karmakar has created history by becoming the First Ever Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics.
Dipa clanched this feat by putting up an impressive show in the final qualifier of the Olympic Test event held in Rio de Janeiro. The Tripura girl has secured 13.366 and 12.566 points in beam and floor exercises and assured a berth for the forthcoming Rio Olympics starting August.
Dipa has been listed as the 79th gymnast in the list of Women’s artistic gymnast who qualified for the Rio Olympics. The International Federation of Gymnastics has confirmed Dipa’s qualification in its official release.
In the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow in 2014, Dipa created history by becoming the first ever Indian woman gymnast to win a medal (bronze). Later, she became the first Indian gymnast to Feature in the finals of World Championships held in November 2015.
So far, 11 Indian Male Gymnasts have participated in Olympics and this is for the first time a Woman will take part in Olympics.
