It is known that Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won a record 99 seats in the 150-member Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
However, if we observe the vote percent, we can find an altogether different story. Only 45.27 percent of 74,23,980 voters had exercised their vote in the elections held on 2nd Feb.
Contesting all divisions on its own, TRS secured 14,68,618 votes out of 33,49,379 polled, 43.85 percent.
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) retained its strongholds in the Old City and won 44 seats with 15.85 percent of the votes polled.
The TDP contested 90 seats and polled 13.11 percent votes. Interestingly the party won just 1 seat. TDP’s alliance partner BJP contested in 60 divisions and won 4 seats by garnering 10.34 percent votes.
The Congress could win just 2 seats by polling 10.40 votes.
Party | Vote Percent | Seats |
TRS | 43.85 | 99 |
MIM | 15.85 | 44 |
TDP | 13.11 | 1 |
BJP | 10.34 | 4 |
Congress | 10.40 | 2 |
TDP secured almost same number of votes as MIM but vast difference in sets is found 44 and just 1.
