Indian entrepreneur and loan defaulter Vijay Mallya was on Tuesday arrested in London by Scotland Yard on Indian Government’s appeal for his extradition.
According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson’s statement, Vijay Mallya has been arrested on an extradition warrant.
In response to the viral news on his arrest, Vijay Mallya took to Twitter and wrote, “Usual Indian media hype; extradition hearing in Court started today as expected.”
Mallya, whose now-defunct Kingfisher airlines owes more than Rs 9,000 crore to several banks, had fled India on March 2, 2016.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya in the bank loan default case.
