High Court Refused to Stay Deepika Padukone’s Gillette Razor Advertisement

The Delhi High Court has refused to pass any interim order of stay on the new razor advertisement starring Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone while responding to a plea filed by Reckitt Benckiser.

Earlier, on 3rd November, the single judge issued a notice on Reckitt’s plea and listed it for hearing on 19th November and refused to pass any interim order of stay against the advertisement.

Challenging this order, Reckitt filed another petition. Responding to this, the division bench of justices has issued notice to ‘Procter and Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd’ and ‘Gillette India Ltd’ seeking their response. The bench listed the case for hearing on 20th November.

Reckitt claims that Gillette’s advertisement disparages their ‘hair removal cream’. The plea said that the ad shows its trademark spatula, which is to be used with the hair removal cream. In their plea, they sought that at least the spatula must be masked or blurred, if the telecast of ad cannot be stayed.

Reckitt claimed that the advertisement would harm its business prospects if allowed to go on. The bench, however, refused to pass interim order and asked Reckitt to wait for the response of Gillete India Ltd.
