What turned out to be an unforgettable day, as many as 13 Farmers across 5 districts of Telangana have committed suicide, yesterday, on 20th September.
While most of them were suicide cases, incidents of farmers suffering Heart Attack owing to crop failure and never ending loans, have also been reported. The death toll reflects the situation of farmers in the Telugu state.
Responding on these suicides, Irrigation Minister Harish Rao pleaded the farmers to not give up hopes as Telangana Govt. is working hard to help them. ‘All the suicide cases will be thoroughly probed before granting ex-gratia to the families of the deceased farmers’, said Harish Rao.
The other day, Telangana Government has hiked the ex-gratia from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, for the families of farmers who committed suicides.
Few also say that farmers’ suicides are on the rise due to the raise in ex-gratia.
Whatever the reason may be, Chief Minister KCR should concentrate on the poor farmers rather than concentrating on his AP Counterpart Chandrababu and GHMC.
