32-year-old Veera Swamy of Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad, has hit headlines by duping E-commerce portal Flipkart of around Rs 20 lakhs. By taking advantage of the flexible return policy of Flipkart, he easily fooled the site.
As per reports, he placed orders of expensive electronic products using the name of his family members and other people of his neighborhood. Post the delivery of the items, he would call the customer care and complain that the quality of the product is not good.
Veera Swamy used to keep the actual item for himself and replace it with a fake replica. Using the same box with the model number, he used to return the fake item to the company representative.
Using several fake email IDs and bank accounts, money would be credited to the respective bank account, once Flipkart received the fake item. In the past 2 years, Veera Swamy has made around 200 purchases and duped Flipkart of Rs 20 lakh.
Flipkart has now lodged a complaint with the Vanasthalipuram police and the investigation is on.
