Government of India has today announced Padma Award winners for year 2016, a day ahead of Republic Day, January 26.
Superstar Rajnikanth is conferred with India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan for his extraordinary service to Film Industry and as a social activist. Telugu media baron Ramoji Rao is also awarded the Padma Vibhushan award.
Ace Telugu director SS Rajamouli is conferred with Padma Sri award for his extraordinary service to film Industry, especially for bringing a global identification to Indian cinema with Baahubali. Actors Priyanka Chopra and Ajay Devgan are also awarded Padma Sri.
The Padma Vibhushan awardees include: Superstar Rajinikanth, Ramoji Rao, Yamini Krishnamurthi, Girija Devi, Shri Shri Ravi Shankar, Dr Viswanathan Shanta. Reliance Industries founder late Dhirubhai Ambani.
The Padma Bhushan awardees include: Saina Nehwal, Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, Sania Mirza, singer Udit Narayan, Ram Sutar, Former CAG Vinod Rai, Heisnam Kanhailal, Barjinder Singh Hamdard, Swami Tejomayananda, Prof N S Ramanuja Tatacharya, Prof D Nageshwar Reddy, Former US Ambassador to India Robert D Blackwill and Bennett and others.
