Indonesia has recently released a special commemorative stamp on the theme of one of the major Sanskrit epics of ancient India Ramayana.

Indonesia has released the commemorative stamp to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of its diplomatic ties with India.

The Embassy of India in Jakarta said on 23rd of April in a statement that the stamp, designed by renowned Indonesian sculptor Padmashri Bapak Nyoman Nuarta, Featured a scene from Ramayana in which Jatayu valiantly fought to save Sita.

It also said, that a specially signed version of the stamp will be on display at the Philately Museum in Jakarta.

The Indian-Indonesian relationship stretch back for almost two millennia. In 1950, the first President of Indonesia, Sukarno, called upon the peoples of Indonesia and India to “intensify the cordial relations” that had existed between the two countries “for more than 1000 years” before they had been “disrupted” by colonial powers.
