Salman Khan has been chosen as the goodwill ambassador of India for the Rio Olympics to be held this year from August 5-21.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has made the announcement after choosing him after rejecting Shah Rukh Khan and senior actor Amitabh Bachchan. The IOA has reportedly chose Salman since he is more connected with the masses. The 50-year-old actor is an inspiration for many people to stay fit.
This is the first time that an actor will be a goodwill ambassador for the contingent of India at the Olympics. This is not the first time Salman is associated with sports but the Bollywood star hero had been earlier spotted at Pro-Kabaddi league matches too. He also promoted Indian Super League Football franchise FC Pune.
Salman praised the sportspersons for their dedication and hoped that they will win several medals for India at the Olympics. Salman also called for appreciation and public interest in sports other than Cricket. He added that he will visit Rio during the Olympics to cheer Indian athletes.
