Delhi government has urged the Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Arbaaz Khan and actress Sunny Leone not to endorse Pan Masala products.
The Delhi government cited the reason of Oral cancers due to the chewing of pan masala products. As per the government report, even if the pan masala products do not contain tobacco, they surely contain addictive areca nuts which lead to cancer. Areca nut is as addictive as caffeine, tobacco and alcohol.
The Delhi government requested the Celebrities not to endorse pan masala products as youngsters take them as role models and consume the products. The Delhi government also asked the Bollywood actors to join anti-tobacco campaign to save the lives of people who die due to oral cancer every year.
Following the Delhi government’s appeal, Sunny Leone has promised to not advertise any product related to tobacco and pan masala in the future.
Even though the government banned the sale and storage of tobacco products, it is unable to implement due to various cases filed by the tobacco companies in courts.
