Smith, Bailey Trump India; Rohit’s 171* in Vain

Australia chased down a stiff total of 310 to register a comfortable five-wicket victory over India in the first of the five-match One-day International (ODI) series at the WACA stadium in Perth.

Australian skipper Steve Smith top scored for the hosts with 135 balls 149 and he was ably supported by George Bailey who scored 122 off 120 balls. Finally, after losing five wickets, Australia chased down 310 in 49.2 overs to take an early lead in the 5-match series.

Debutant Barinder Sran of India was the most successful bowler for the guests with 3 scalps. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t trouble Australian batsmen.

Earlier India won the toss and batted first. Opener Rohit Sharma’s record breaking 163-ball 171 and Virat Kohli’s fluent 91 helped India to reach 309/3 in 50 overs but the efforts went in vain at the end.

Scott Boland and Joel Parisof Australia also made ODI debut with this match. Steve Smith of Australia was named the Player of the match.
