Telangana Chief Minister KCR came to power by winning the 2014 Assembly elections by using the mantra of loan waiver to Farmers. He couldn’t completely waive the loans after the polls and the result is that farmers are still committing suicides in the rich state.
However, the mantra of waiver proves to be well cooked recipe for electoral success. Now, as GHMC polls are approaching, KCR is believed to have taken the decision to waive Rs 423 Crore worth pending power and water bills of people living under the GHMC limits.
This decision is expected to benefit around 6 lakh defaulters whose power and water bills are pending for months. The government will reimburse the respective firms.
A couple of months ago, the TRS government announced to collect only Rs 101 as property tax instead of the usual Rs 1200. Analysts feel that these decisions are taken only keeping the GHMC elections in mind.
The question is, how would tax-payers feel when the dues of defaulters are waived come election time. People will become lazy with these kinds of waivers. However, our politicians only care for winning the polls, right?
