The Telugu Desam Party, which participated in the polls in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, surprisingly managed to win two seats. Elections were held for a total of 24 wards. Apart from winning Two, TDP stood at second position in as many as 16 wards.
Saffron party, BJP won major Share of 10 seats with the Congress winning 6. TDP grabbed third spot with 2 seats while Tamil parties, DMK and AIDMK won one seat each. The Island has 1.3 lakh Telugu speaking people.
The Andhra Pradesh ruling party has fielded 18 candidates in the elections. While majority of the candidates contested for Panchayat seats, two candidates contested for the Zilla Parishad and one each for Pradhan and Samithi posts.
TDP is planning to slowly expand its wings to become a national party.
